Five Things That Happened This Weekend

1) I successfully decorated and displayed 200 cupcakes for a wedding for a friend. The cupcakes were beautiful and delicious and all I heard were good things from guests. I over heard the bride say, “it looks just like I imagined it.” I’m not sure if she was talking the cakes specifically or the whole reception because the entire thing was beautiful. I was so happy to be a part of it.

B) My car died. Transmission. More to come.

3) My camera died. I looked online and it seems to be a common error. A company in Texas will fix it for $89. A company in town will look at it for $20 and let me know. I’m debating which to do, because if I pay $20 and then am told it will cost more than $70 to fix it, I’ll have made the wrong choice. Dilemma. But, at least I have time to wait because I have to fix my car first!

4) I got surprised at a surprise party I helped plan for my little brother. See, Ben went and graduated high school this year and no one said anything. So we decided to throw him a surprise graduation party. We even had a pinata so we could play my favorite game, Beat Ben. Well, party time comes and a sign goes around that says Happy Birthday & Graduation! And I was given a birthday balloon, found out there was a 2nd game based on quotes I say and there was a second dessert planned with me in mind. Both Ben and I were surprised to find that we were honorees at a party we both helped plan. How fun!

5) I got to see my niece in her first soccer scrimmage match. It was fun and cute to see these little girls who really don’t know what they are doing yet. The goalies did a great job and everyone had fun. I got a little sunburned. Since my car was broken, I rode my bike and realized just how out of shape I am.

A Little Something Sweet

So.. the past two weeks I have been baking furiously and my freezer holds the proof. So far, I have 12 dozen cupcakes frozen and waiting. By the end of this week, it’ll be 18 dozen. 108 chocolate, 108 vanilla.

This weekend I will finally get to testing the Italian Meringue Buttercream and a round of cookies for the decorations of the cupcakes.

Just wait til you see these cakes when I’m done, they are going to be awesome.

And in the mean time, I’ve created a web site for Sweet Petites. Still a work in progress.

Gil Wedding

So.. today was one long day! I woke up at 7 to get to the farmer’s market to buy boysenberries, then had to stop at my mom’s for oranges, the grocery store for some more supplies, a quick stop for gas and then to the real work – baking 100 cupcakes!

Half the cupcakes were Orange Cream with a delicious Orange-Infused Swiss Meringue Buttercream and the other half were Boysenberry Cupcakes with Boysenberry Swiss Meringue Buttercream. I have to say, the orange ones were absolutely to die for. (The boysenberry was good too, but I’m telling you, the orange ones remind me of creamsicles. Yum.)

All went well, the cupcakes tasted and looked fantastic and I hope the bride & groom and all the guests had a great time.

And to top it off, I just got signed on to do another wedding next month. And this time, 200 guests! Bring it! :)

Yellow-Buttermilk Cupcakes

So.. this is about as simple as you can get.

Yellow Buttermilk Cupcakes

Simple cake with such amazing flavor and the perfect crumb. I used a dark chocolate buttercream frosting, but I think I need to try it with maybe some kind of vanilla. With sprinkles.

Strawberry Cupcakes

So.. I was talking to Miriam on Friday night, she was getting ready to bake cupcakes for her roommate’s bridal shower. She wanted to do strawberry cupcakes and we were talking about some options and ideas. I had a bonfire to go to on Saturday, and as the Resident Cupcake Queen, I pretty much had to bring cupcakes. I decided to give strawberry cupcakes a shot and WOW they were awesome. I’m thinking these may be the ones I do for Ruth’s baby shower this summer.

Strawberries are in the actual cupcake, in the delicious version of meringue buttercream frosting and them sliced on top as garnish. Yum and beautiful. This may be one of my favorites so far.

Irish Cupcakes

So.. St. Patrick’s Day came a little late this year. I just got back from a fun little Irish party where I spent much of my time looking for gold hidden by leprechauns (those are sneaky little guys!) and eating WAY TOO MUCH FOOD. I, of course, brought cupcakes, which pretty much anyone who knows me by now knows that if you invite me to a party, I will bring cupcakes. Today’s offering? Irish Cupcakes, which are a delicious brown sugar pound cake with Bailey’s Irish Creme Frosting. YUM-O. I’m telling you.

Snickerdoodle Cupcakes

Saturday night we baked delicious Snickerdoodle Cupcakes. They taste just like snickerdoodle cookies, and have a great frosting that’s almost like a marshmallow cream. Yum!

Sweet Treats
Cupcake

I absolutely love cupcakes. They are fun to make, fun to eat, and pretty much my favorite treat. I made these delicious mocha cupcakes last week.

Cupcake

I am hoping someday to be able to sell my cupcakes in my own shop. Look for more photos to come of my creations, and hopefully information on how to purchase (once I figure out the legal side of things!) coming soon-ish!
